     Animation

Using iKITMovie the children animated the clay character they made, frame by frame, while closely following the storyboard they had written earlier. In this stop motion project the group consisted of four children aged 10 to 12. They took turns directing or animating from scene to scene. One person would operate the keyboard and mouse with iKITMovie while the others animated the characters frame by frame. They were all highly enthusiastic but observed with great concentration how the characters movement brought their creation to life when played back onscreen.

Some tips for children when animating their stop motion animation movie:

  • Its best to use 15 frames per second when animating - This is the default setting in iKITMovie so there is no need to change it.

  • Take 12 to 15 frames or snapshots at the beginning to set the scene, before you start to animate the characters.

  • Take 1 shot / frame for each movement of the claymation character.

  •  For a pause in movement of the claymation character take 5 to 7 frames without making a change in the characters position .

  • Take 12 to 15 shots (snaps or frames whichever terminology you wish to use) at the end of each scene to finish it.

  • Remember to make the stop motion characters movements small from frame to frame in order to keep the animation looking smooth and realistic.

  • Review by replaying your movie regularly to monitor progress.

  • Save you movie regularly. iKITMovie will automatically save your project every 50 frames anyway, but you can change this to any number of frames.
